Scholarship Competition

The Lexington Choral Society awards a Vocal Scholarship annually to area students who are actively involved in school choral programs. The purpose is to encourage participation and development in the art of vocal and choral singing.

Prizes Awarded

1st Prize—$500

2nd Prize—$250

Prizes: Prize money may be used for private voice instruction, registration fees or travel expenses for auditioned honor choirs, or tuition for summer chorus camps. In addition to prize money winners will be invited to perform during the Lexington Choral Society’s spring concert.

Who may audition: Auditions are open to high school students grades 10—12 who are actively involved in school choral programs. Students must be residents of Davidson County.

Date of Audition: Sunday, April 23, 2023, 3:00pm

Audition Process:

  • Participants will sing one vocal selection from memory with piano accompaniment (no recorded accompaniments will be allowed). Must provide your own accompanist unless other arrangements are made.

  • The selection must be a sacred or secular art song or classical piece (no pop music—including contemporary Christian).

  • The participant must supply an original copy of the music for the judges use.

  • The judge will be a non-resident of Davidson County.

  • Prizes will be awarded based on the quality of presentation and potential of the participant.

  • Prize money will be paid directly to the teacher or organization of the participant’s choice.

  • Winners will perform at the "Spring Sing" concert.
